I am quite puzzled to see that the hard drive 'appears to be failing' as Disk First Aid has always given it a clean bill of health and still does. Having seen a few posts about such topics, I have run EtreCheck and I post the report as extra text. It takes at least ten minutes to launch zoom, which I need, and it runs ok once it's running, thank goodness. This week it is effectively unusable except for word processing I am web browsing and doing email on my lightning fast phone. But since then it has got worse and worse. It might have been a little better at first. To my amazement, this did not really change anything. I add that I run two external monitors (Apple 20' cinema, 1680x1050 LG 18' L1800, 1280x1024) and I tried disconnecting those, but this did not seem to help, and my own research did not lead me to believe that running these monitors would so degrade performance.Īt some point I upgraded to Catalina hoping that would help, but it did not.Ībout six weeks ago (and at that time I was running the machine without any external display) I formatted the hard drive and re-installed Mojave.
